Bookcase Styling

The one thing I always seem to have trouble with when it comes to interior design is bookcases. I currently have two big cases in my entryway and one in my office.
These shelves always end up being clutter magnets. It seems like the right place to just throw any book, magazine, or video games with out any effort to make it look neat. This is one project I want to work on in the summer, to really style the bookcases in the entryway.

I always love how in magazines and decor sites everything is neat and organized and not just a jumbled mess of books. The one main thing I have been noticing when observing these photos is how everything is kinda mixed. Its just not books, you also have meaningful photos and china on display as well.

The biggest rule of thumb is contrast, as you look at this photo you can plainly see the contrast of black and gold. As well in other photos you have colour blocking with the different books you may have.

Bookcases are just not to store books any more, they are now being used to showcase pieces. I love how these people showcased there collections of globes on the tops of the bookcase. As the summer goes on my plan is to pick up a few odds and ends that would be great piece to show off!

So whats your favourite way to style a bookcase or shelves in your home?

Gallery Walls = Must Have

Lets just take a moment to take in this amazing trend for those blank walls we never know what to do with. I absolutely love the idea of gallery walls, these are perfect place to display family photos, inspirational quotes and art work. The above photo is of my own gallery wall in my living room that fits perfectly above the couch.
I also add some more inspiration below as I'm thinking of doing one in the bedroom as well. In the bedroom I have one wall that I have no idea what to do with. The hardest part is the TV I have sitting on the dresser. I love the idea of doing on of these walls around the TV that almost works as a camouflage.

I love this last picture which I want to try in the bedroom.
What are your thoughts on gallery walls?
Love them or Hate them, let me know in the comments!

Spring Clean Tips and Tricks

As I mentioned this week I have been in the process of doing my spring cleaning. I find this task very daunting with lots of little things we don't usually clean on a regular basis. With that being said I love trying out new clean products that some times work and other times not so much.
The other day I was poking around Pinterest and found some neat tricks for cleaning those tough situations.

I hope you find these tips helpful when you start your spring cleaning.
Is there any tips that you tried and worked?

Spring Trends to bring home

With the first day of spring being tomorrow it's time to bring into the home as well. Enough with the cold weather and grey days, I want sunshine and colour.
This week I have started the daunting spring clean and have been adding bits of spring colours and scents throughout the apartment. I thought I would you leave you guys some of the images that have been inspiring me this week!

I can not wait for the warmer weather but in the meantime its nice to have a refreshed home!
The easiest way to bring spring into the home is with pops of colour. Add some colourful photos to a gallery wall.
Throw a few bright throw pillows on the couch with a nice blanket.

What are some ways you brighten your home for the new season?

Creative Work = Creative Space

Since starting the blog back up I have been spending more time in my home office, which makes me really want to redecorate!
I love beautiful things and a beautiful work space goes hand in hand with beautiful work.
So as I start to prep for a redesign on my space I go to Pinterest for some inspiration.
Below are a few looks that I hope to achieve in my own home office.
I love the cleanness and minimalist of these looks.

What do you look for in a work space?

Life in color

Last week we talked about the biggest trend which is bright bold colors.  What I love most about fashion is that it can transition into the home! You can add pops of color with detailed pillows, an accent chair, or a nice bold throw blanket. By doing these small things can change the whole feeling of a room.
